Technical description

Lightning risk assessment and protection method for HVDC lines. Developed the world's first DC line arrester (up to ±1100kV). Adopted in IEC standards and deployed avoid large power blackout.

Simplified description

Scientists created a new method to protect high-voltage power lines from lightning strikes. They developed the world's first device of its kind, capable of handling up to 1100kV, to prevent lightning from causing power outages. This innovation became a standard internationally and is now used on all 40 major power lines in China, helping to avoid massive blackouts.
